Jimmie “C” Byers, age 83 of Crawfordsville passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Witham Health Services in Lebanon. He was born in South Haven, Michigan on October 10, 1936 to the late Theodore Herman & Elizabeth Nadine (Smith) Byers.
Jimmie graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1954 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam and continued serving in the National Guard for another 18 years. On April 7, 1979 he married, Sandi Wheeler, who survives. He retired from R.R. Donnelly’s as a repairman after 44 ½ years. He was a member of the Crawfordsville American Legion Post #72, Masonic Lodge #50, Shiner’s, Moose Lodge, Eagles, and the VFW. He loved golfing, dancing, traveling and visiting people. He loved people and didn’t know a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandi Byers; 2 children, Amber (Brad) Herron and Brian (Anita) Byers; 2 sisters, Nelda Hollingshead and Kay Simonton; 3 grandchildren, David (Kayla) Herron, Dale (Kristin) Byers, and Misha (Justin Piersall) Byers; 5 great grandchildren, Brian, Ryliegh, Darius, Lily, and Liam; 2 brother-in-law’s, Bob Wheeler, Jack Wheeler; 3 sister-in-law’s, Jeanne Cornett, Darlene Brooks, and Jane (Bob) Starnes; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings, Dolly Stembaugh, Bill Byers, Junior Byers, Clyde Byers, Betty Allen, JoAnn Jeffries, Larry Byers, Gary Byers, Bud Byers, and an infant sister; a granddaughter, Amanda Herron; 2 great grandchildren, Cole and Samantha; 3 brother-in-law’s, Thomas Wheeler, William Wheeler, Jim Wheeler; and 3 sister-in-law’s, Frances Livengood, June West, and Sue Sutherlin.
Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street, in Crawfordsville on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 1:00pm till the time of the funeral service at 3:00pm with Pastor Steve Wilke officiating. A Masonic Service and Military honors by the National Guard and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard will start the service. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.
