Richard Lee Caldwell

February 13, 1933 ~ December 6, 2018 (age 85)

Richard Lee Caldwell, 85, of Crawfordsville passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 in his home.

He was born to the late Carl Jesse and Louise Ann (Pointer) Caldwell on February 13, 1933 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Richard graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1950, and worked various jobs while courting and then marrying the love of his life, Beverly Ann (Beecher) Caldwell on July 21, 1951, who survives.  With a young family, they moved to Kansas City, Kansas for several years, before returning home to the Crawfordsville area. Richard spent the majority of his life working for the post office before retiring in 1988.

Richard enjoyed many hobbies over the years – square dancing, playing cards, mushroom hunting, traveling, antiquing, automobile shopping, as well as being an avid reader. He held memberships in both the Sugar Creek Squares and the American Postal Workers Union. He and Beverly frequently wintered in southwestern Texas during retirement and enjoyed spending time with family, which included hosting weekly Sunday lunches.

Richard was active in several church families – a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and treasurer at Yountsville Community Church, a member of the Browns Valley Christian Church, and most recently he attended the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, and five children: daughter Rebecca (Richard) McNeely, son Rick Caldwell, son David (Beth) Caldwell, daughter Kelly (Robert) Surber, and daughter Rhonda (William) Rossok; eight grandchildren: Jessica, Mike, Tim, Caleb, Zach, Tony, Troy, and Darcy; six great-grandchildren: Mercedes, Justice, Levi, Jackson, LauraBelle, and Everly; and sister-in-law Sandy Caldwell.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen Hunt, brother Charles Caldwell, brother Harley Caldwell, sister Rose Hall, and brother Carl Caldwell.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, December 9 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville.  Funeral service will immediately follow, with Pastor Dave Finch officiating.
