Gale Wellman Jameyson passed peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at Franciscan Hospital South, Indianapolis. He and his wife Marla were spending part of the summer in her hometown of Crawfordsville, Indiana. Their residence is Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, Florida.
Born in New Orleans, his family moved to Portland, Maine when he was only one year old. Through the years, one of his favorite things was a family cabin at Brandy Pond, Naples, commonly known in Maine as a "camp." Summers included boating, working on boats, swimming, and golf.
Gale enlisted in the Marines and served in the reserve, attaining the rank of Corporal. His career was with Ford Motor Credit, Unum Insurance Company, Saco & Biddeford Savings Bank, and Synovus. Gale's passion was golf. He was an officer and past president of Maine State Golf Association and enjoyed many sunny days of golf in Florida after his retirement. Between Maine and Florida, he scored five holes-in one, and thrived on tournaments with the camaraderie and competition.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel (Bond) Jameyson, sister Sharon (Jameyson) Brasier, and by his wife Noreen (Ditata) Jameyson. Gale is survived by daughter Lori Lyons (Paul), grandsons Brandon and Nicholas, and granddaughter Hannah of Biddeford, Maine. Also surviving is son John, and grandsons Colby and Connor of Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and nieces and nephews. Gale and Marla McDaniel met on Amelia Island, and they were married at a gala golf course wedding in 2004. She survives.
In keeping with the wishes of Gale, there will be no funeral service. No other plans have been made at this time. The family thanks Franciscan of Crawfordsville and Indianapolis, St. Vincent's Indianapolis, and Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville for their dedicated care every step of Gale's journey home.
