Barbara E. Gibson-Carpenter, age 77 of Ladoga, passed away on July 13, 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 5, 1948 to John and Irene (Hensley) Williams in Barbourville, KY. Barb married Roger Gibson in 1972, spending 41 years together raising their family, until his passing in 2013. She later married James Carpenter on October 19, 2019 at the Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene.
Barb worked at RR Donnelly's for 24 years, retiring in 2011. She was a longtime member of the Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene. Barb was a member of the Eagles, Donnelly's Club and a former member of the Red Hat Society. Barb enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and camping. She enjoyed watching the Indiana Fever team. Barb's greatest joy was spending time with family, especially when she became a grandmother and great grandmother. She never missed a school or sporting event, always cheering on her family.
Barb will be greatly missed by her husband, Jim Carpenter; 5 children, Jerry (Andrew) Shelton, Angel (Ralph) Thornburg, Jamie Gibson, Susan (Chris) Conkright, Mandy (Jody) Thomas; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; Jim's children, Shelly (Darren) Myers, Joe (Staci) Krutzsch, and Brad (Pam) Carpenter; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Bonnie (Greg) Wray, Brenda Lighty, Jonna (Travis) Davis, Kim (Nate) Rice, Sue (Max) Woodall; brothers, Kenny (Mary Kay) Williams, Joey (Becky) Williams, Robert (Nikki) Williams, Gerald (Linda) Williams, Mark (Tammy) Williams and David (Patti) Williams; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Roger; son, Tony Shelton; step-daughter, Cami Miles; sister, Gale Gibson; brother, Roger Williams; and brother-in-law, Gary Gibson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene, 117 E State Road 234, Ladoga, IN 47954.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 4-7pm at Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene. A funeral service will be held at the church on Friday, July 17 at 11:00am, with burial to follow at Ladoga Cemetery.
