Bessie Mae (Murphy) Sarjent, age 104 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. She was born in Menifee County, Kentucky on January 9, 1916 to the late John Fleming & Susie Belle (Martin) Murphy.
Bessie attended Menifee County Kentucky Schools and on November 8, 1930 in Frenchburg, Kentucky, she married Oliver C. Suiter, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1991. On November 17, 1995 in Roachdale, she married Warren Sarjent, who preceded her in death on May 11, 2014. She was the sales clerk at the Squire Shop for 18 years. She was a member of the Roachdale Baptist Church and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 54 years, started the sorority chapter in Roachdale, and was voted Woman of the Year 3 times.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Vallis) Suiter; an adopted son, Kenneth (JoAnn) Eugene Murphy; daughter-in-law, Nancy Suiter; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Oliver Suiter and Warren Sarjent; two sons, William Fleming Suiter and Martin Clay Suiter; five brothers, Garnet, James, Henry, Robert, and Donald; two sisters, Elizabeth and Isabelle; and a grandson, Brian Suiter.
Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street, in Crawfordsville on Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Revs. Kenneth Murphy and Shannon Ivers officiating. Burial will follow at Ladoga Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, 1104 Big Four Arch Road, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
