Dan Halford

Dan Halford, age 92, of Waynetown, IN. passed away Wednesday April 22, 2020 while a resident of Lane House Nursing Home, Crawfordsville, IN.

Dan was born May 22, 1927 at Elwood, IN. the son of C. Wayne and Alpha Opal (nee Hiatt) Halford and graduated from Jefferson Township high School in Kempton, IN. in 1945. He then graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1948. Dan worked as an embalmer at Copher-Fesler Funeral Home, Elwood, In from 1948 to 1950. He then held the position of Vice President and Funeral Director with Reed Funeral Home in Columbus, IN. from 1950 to 1966. From 1966 to 1973 he was a Sales Manager for Commonwealth Life Insurance. He joined Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown, In. as a Funeral Director in 1973 and retired 1989. To ward off boredom he often worked at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown as a greeter from 1999 until 2005.

Dan formerly maintained memberships at the North Christian Church, Columbus, IN., Indiana Funeral Directors Association,  Crawfordsville Moose Lodge #6, F.& AM lodge #302 Waynetown, IN., Crawfordsville Eagles Lodge and was an active member for many years in the Waynetown Merchants Association. He married Sandra (nee Gibbs) Meadows on March 24, 1979 and they enjoyed 41 years of wedded bliss and dancing together. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and his wife Sandy on March 14, 2020.

Dan is survived by his daughters Dana McKean (companion Greg Frieders) of Shelbyville, IN.; Elaine (husband Gary) Herbert and Lisa (husband Phil) Parker both of Columbus, IN. step daughters Margaret (husband Glenn) Jones of Crawfordsville, IN. and Angela (husband John) Fielder of Veedersburg, IN. He will also be missed by 15 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Graveside comital services for Dan and Sandy Halford will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday June 27th at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Shoemaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
