Donald E. Moody, Jr, age 82 of Newport, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026 at home. He was born on September 6,1943 to the late Donald and Sarah (Williamson) Moody in Danville, IL. Don married Ruth "Nikki" Miller on July 3,1966 in Newport, spending 50 loving years together until her passing in 2016.
He was a graduate of Newport High School. Don proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed in North Carolina. He was a Master Electrician with the Danville IBW Local 538, retiring from Eli Lily in 2005. Don was a former longtime member of the Newport United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 184 in Newport, Free Masons Lodge since 1967, and a member of the Eastern Star Pimento Chapter 516. In his younger years, Don enjoyed playing a round of golf with friends.
He is survived by his brother, Franklin Moody and his wife; his children, Scott (Ruth Eva) Moody and Sheri Moody-Byrne; grandchildren, Scott (Kelsey) Moody Jr, Melissa (Kayla) Moody, and Harrison Byrne; great grandchildren, Riley, Reagan, Vada, Violette and one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street in Kingman on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 12:00pm till the time of the funeral service at 2:00pm officiated by Pastor John Overbey. Graveside services with military honors provided by the United States Navy and American Legion Post 184 will follow at Thomas Cemetery.
