Dorothy M. Southwood

Dorothy Mae Southwood, 100, of Crawfordsville, Indiana, went to her heavenly home on September 7, 2026.

Dorothy was born on July 4, 1926, in Princeton, Indiana, to Robert Emmet Huey and Lou (Brittingham) Huey. She married Lawrence Southwood on June 1, 1947, and together they shared 51 years of marriage before his passing in 1998.

In 1960, Dorothy and Lawrence moved to Crawfordsville, where they made their home and raised their three children. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker throughout her adult life. Family was one of her greatest earthly joys, and over the course of her remarkable 100 years, she had the blessing of watching her family grow through five generations.

Above all, Dorothy's life was rooted in her faith in God. Her greatest desire was to be a witness for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a devoted prayer warrior who loved the Lord above all else, and her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. The example she set through her faith, devotion to family and gentle spirit will continue to live on through the generations she leaves behind.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Lee) Ebaugh of New Market and Beverly (Tom) Feather of New Ross; seven grandchildren, Joe Southwood, Jon Southwood, Jennifer Needham, Ryan Needham, Beth Thomas, Chris Feather and Courtney Kistler; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Lawrence, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Emmet and Lou (Brittingham) Huey; her son, Larry Southwood; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Southwood; three sisters; and one brother.

Dorothy recently celebrated the extraordinary milestone of her 100th birthday on July 4, surrounded by family and friends. While a century of life is remarkable in itself, Dorothy's legacy is found in far more than the number of years she lived. It is found in the family she loved, the generations she helped shape, the prayers she faithfully prayed and, most importantly, the faith she carried throughout her life.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that after 100 years of faithfully loving and serving the Lord, Dorothy is now home with Him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12 at Sanders Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tami Mussche officiating. Committal service will follow at Oak Hill North Mausoleum.
