Elaine Reitsma Smith

Elaine Reitsma Smith, age 62 formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away on July 12, 2025 at St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson. She was born on January 6, 1963 to Donald Hunt and Lenna (Axsom) Mings in Crawfordsville. Elaine was raised by her mother and stepfather, Robert Mings, Sr. 

She was a graduate of East Side High School in Gainesville, FL. Elaine worked for Ben Hur Nursing Home as a CNA, Crawford Industries, and County Market. She was known for having a shopping bag in hand and enjoyed picking out handbags, jewelry and clothing. Elaine loved spending time with family, especially playing cards. In recent years, she found joy in coloring pictures at home. Elaine's best moments were spent with her kids and grandkids. 

She is survived by her husband, Chris Smith; mother, Lenna; 2 children, Stephanie (Susan) Peters and Kerrington (Luisa) Brown; 2 grandchildren, Tyler Runion and Aria Brown; 7 siblings, Roxanna (Raymond) Randolph, twin brother, Dwayne Hunt, Wanda (Kevin) Bell, Robert (Jean) Mings, Jr., David Mings, Jonathan (Amber) Mings, Rebecca Mings. She will be greatly missed by several nieces, nephews and extended family. 

Elaine is predeceased by her father, Donald; stepfather, Robert; former husband, Harry D. Fulk and brother, Mark Hunt. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Sanders Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville from 2:00pm until the time of the service at 4:00 pm. with Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Cremation will follow the service with Sanders Funeral Care entrusted with care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to assist her family with final expenses.
