F Louise Oppy Rhodes

Louise Oppy Rhodes, 92, Crawfordsville, passed away Thursday at 11:06 AM at the Lane House Nursing Home. She was born July 9, 1918 in O'Dell, Indiana to Curtis Wesley and Pearl (Lovall-Burcham) Reesor. She first married Leland Edward Oppy in 1936. He died from Lukemia in 1953. She then married Harold "Dusty" Rhodes, Sr. in 1973. He died in 1994.

Louise graduated from Jackson Heights School, near New Richmond in 1936. She was employed at the Thorntown Blouse Factory, Coal Creek Schools as a cook, and worked in Quality Control at RR Donnelleys until her retirement in 1978.

She was a past member of the Center Christian Church, near Elmdale; the Auxilliaries of the American Legion and VFW Posts of Crawfordsville. She enjoyed people, playing cards and bingo. Her favorite past time included watching the birds that came to her feeder. Cardinals were her favorite. She loved to crochet and passed that skill on to many friends.

She was preceded in death in addition to her husbands; her parents, three infant daughters, granddaughter: Lana Jo Oppy Pate, and great granddaughter: Ava Michele Montana.

She is survived by 4 sons: Jim (Gail) Oppy, Port Republic, VA: Larry (Rose) Oppy, Danville, IN: Mike (Lou) Oppy, Avon, IN: and Frank Oppy (companion-Rudy Shimp), Indianapolis, IN. A special adopted daughter: Nancy (Don) Whitehead-Holladay, Attica, IN. Also, 1 sister: Pauline Buck, Lafayette, IN She leaves 6 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday (11/15/10) at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S.Washington St., Crawfordsville, with Michael Montana and Mick Oppy officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Burial will be at the New Richmond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
