Glen Albert Switzer

Glen Albert Switzer, age 96 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was born in Wingate, Indiana on May 24, 1927 to the late Russell & Lucille (Murphy) Switzer.

Glen attended Wingate Schools and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. On October 16, 1948 he married, Mary Kathryn VanDame, who preceded him in death on March 29, 1998. He worked at Raybestos as a maintenance supervisor and retired after 30 plus years. After retirement he moved to Lake Placid, Florida for many years. He was a life-time member of the Crawfordsville American Legion Post 72, where he was a member for 77 years, and a member of the VFW, and the Elks, Eagles, and Moose Lodges. He enjoyed dancing, boating, playing cards and poker, and spending time with his friends at the Legion.

He is survived by his four sons, Mike (Vickie) Switzer, David (Nin) Switzer, Terry (Cindy) Switzer, and Russell (Tammy) Switzer; 13 grandchildren, Shannon (Erin) Switzer, Jacob (Amanda) Switzer, James (Lisa) Switzer, Jennifer (Ben) Evans, Janelle (Stephen) Escalante, Denise (Don) Otterburg, Dawn (David) Biggs, Keith (Shannon) Switzer, Kelly (Eric) Rose, Ben (Jim Mason) Switzer, Sara (Neal) Alfano, Justin Dugger, and Misty (Kyle) Bowers; 22 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Switzer; a sister, Evelyn Hoffman; a daughter-in-law, Leah Switzer, and a great granddaughter, Caitlyn Gail Lee Switzer.

Visitation will be at Sanders Shoemaker Funeral Care, 202 Bratton Road in Waynetown on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Pastor Kevin Howey officiating and military honors by the United States Navy and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard.
