James Joseph Deer

James Joseph Deer, 67, of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at his home on August 2, 2026. He was born in Terre Haute on September 13, 1958, to the late John Deer and Patricia Ann (Garber) Haynes.

Jim graduated from Crawfordsville High School as a member of the Class of 1976. He was known for his incredible work ethic from a young age. He began his career working for a local siding company before pursuing his dream of owning his own business by founding C'Ville Siding & Windows. As his knowledge, craftsmanship, and reputation grew, he expanded into residential construction, building homes throughout the community. His passion for business and entrepreneurship eventually led him to establish Deer Projects LLC and JJD Rental Group LLC. There was never a project too difficult or a job too challenging for Jim to tackle. If something was broken, he was determined to find a way to fix it. Through determination, vision, and countless hours of hard work, he built successful businesses while leaving a lasting mark on Crawfordsville and the surrounding communities.

While Jim was proud of his professional accomplishments, nothing meant more to him than his family. He treasured every moment spent with his children and found joy in creating memories with them. His love for children extended far beyond his own family, and he took great pride in supporting youth throughout the community.

Jim's generosity was one of his defining qualities. He believed in helping others whenever he could and was known as the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need without expecting anything in return. He was a proud supporter of many local organizations, including the Youth Service Bureau and the Boys & Girls Club, believing that investing in young people helped strengthen the entire community.

Anyone who knew Jim knew his larger-than-life personality. He had a contagious laugh, a booming voice, and an unforgettable presence, you often heard him before you saw him. He was quick with a joke, loved making people laugh, and had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome.

Jim will be remembered as a hardworking entrepreneur, loving husband, devoted father, caring brother, proud grandfather, loyal friend, and respected businessman. Everything he did came from a place of kindness and genuine care for others. He never wanted anyone to feel pain and always looked for ways to help those around him. His generosity, humor, unwavering work ethic, and willingness to lend a helping hand will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim is survived by his children, Callen Deer, Graysen Deer, Keaten Deer, Kamden Deer, Tristen Deer, Zion Deer, Aliviana Deer, Jason (Stephanie) Deer, Tabitha (Neal) Schmidt-McMullen, Tricia (Troy) Ashby, and Tim McKinney; his wife, Christina Deer; his grandson, Perrin Deer; and his siblings, Edward Deer, Joni Ems, Mike Deer, and Shelly Powell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his children, Kayne Jenkins and Samantha Deer.

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at Rock Point Church, 429 W. 150 S., Crawfordsville, Indiana, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.
