Mr. James Elliott "EL" Hardaway, 96, Crawfordsville, passed away Sunday, September 6th, at 1:20 AM, in the St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. He was born October 8th, 1918, in Meade County, Kentucky, to Edgar E. and Eva (Foote) Hardaway. He married Virginia Irene Allen on December 9th, 1950 in Crawfordsville. She preceded him in death on February 11th, 1995.

"EL" retired from RR Donnelleys where he had been a Pressman. He was a 1936 graduate of New Ross High School; a member of the Mace United Methodist Church; was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran, having served in Australia, New Guinea , and the Philippines, from August 12th, 1941 until July 27th, 1945; and was a member of the American Legion Post #72. "EL" was a gifted amateur athlete. He enjoyed bowling and baseball. He was an unfailing fan of the Colts and the Pacers. In his later years he indulged his passion for reading and writing his memoirs. He lived a long and remarkable life.

He is survived by children: Nancy Sue Hudson, Crawfordsville; Mary Ellen Seifert, Sylvania, Alabama; and John (Julia) Hardaway, Laguna Niguel, California. Also surviving is his Special Friend and Companion, Genetha Waldon, Crawfordsville; grandchildren: Iva Brooks, Holly Hudson, J. R. Hudson, George Hardaway, Geoffrey Hardaway, Callie Hardaway; great grandchildren: Christina Calloway Wilber, Tyler Hudson, Philip Earls, Catherine Earls, Mekenzy Brooks, Rycah Brooks, Joseph Hudson, Taryn Brooks, Samuel Hudson; great great grandchildren: Allayna Gemino and Jameson Wilber. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Charles, Robert, and William Hardaway; his sisters: Clara Buck, and Martha Sabens; and his parents.

A Public Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, September 9th, in the Mace Community Cemetery, with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Military Rites will be conducted at 2:00 PM by the Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard with the graveside services to follow. Friends may call at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM
