John Raymond Hudson, age 77 of Boone County, passed away on October 16, 2025 at home. He was born on October 20, 1947 to Donald and Iris (Jones) Hudson in Crawfordsville. John married Anne Hardaway on May 30, 1980, spending 13 loving years together until her passing in 1993.
He graduated from Darlington High School, Class of 1965, and Indiana Business College with a degree in Bookkeeping and Accounting, Class of 1972. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, from September 7, 1966 to January 10, 1969. During his service, he earned the rank of Corporal and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
John worked in construction business for about 30 years, then he was a customer service manager at Wood-Mizer, a customer service manager and partner LasTec and retired from Boone County as a building inspector. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and New Brunswick Church of Christ. John enjoyed being outdoors, caring for his yard and mowing. He was often feeding and watching the birds and animals in the yard. John was always doing woodworking projects, especially for his grandkids.
John is survived by his mother, Iris Hudson; children, Robert Woodkey, Michelle VanHook and Wendi (Frank) Mahurin; grandchildren, Halee (Kyle) Woodkey-Vice, Zachary (Sarah) VanHook, Alex VanHook, Nicolas VanHook, Katelin VanHook, Kylie Smith-Banks and Kyle Smith; great grandchildren, Camden, Grace, Annie, Caden, Autumn, Colt, Liam, Easton and Dawson; sisters, Diana (David) Mahoy and Terri (David) DeNeal; and nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald Hudson; wife, Anne Hudson; and great grandson, Brady Smith.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 1-3 pm at New Brunswick Church of Christ, 6480 South State Road 39 outside of Lebanon with a service at 3:30pm. Committal services and military honors provided by the United States Marines and American Legion, Post 72, will follow at Mace Community Cemetery.
