Leonard Orville Mitchell

Leonard Mitchell passed away early Saturday morning, June 13, 2020. Leonard was the son of the late Fred and Lillie Mitchell of Waveland and graduated from Waveland High School in 1944. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Sue Grimes and they had a beautiful 50 years of marriage before her passing in 1999. Together they made their home where he was a lifelong farmer in the Parkersburg and New Market area.

Leonard is survived by his son, Kevin (Judy) Mitchell of St. Louis, MO; his daughter, Lyn (Elijah) Taylor of Dyersburg, TN; five grandchildren, Devin Mitchell, Jennifer Hawthorne, Jamie Everman, Michael Lowhorn, and Jennifer Teismann; eight great-grandchildren, Declan, Brynn, Marshall, Braxton, Harley, Emily, Ben, and Gabe; many nieces and nephews plus great nieces and nephews; and his sweet sister-in-law, Naomi Mitchell.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lillie; his wife, Helen; his son, Ted; and his brothers, Fred Jr, Kenneth, and Dale.

Due to the national health concerns, a private family service will be held at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care in Crawfordsville on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. There will be a public graveside service following at 2:00pm at Russellville Cemetery. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later time so that all his family and friends may join in to reminisce and share stories of how he touched their lives.
