Martha Theresia Scruggs, 82, joined her lord and savior Sunday Oct 17, 2010 at her home in North Carolina. She was born Feb 22, 1928 in Blaichach, Germany. She is survived by her husband, CSM (Ret) Charles R. Scruggs of Crawfordsville, four brothers still living in Blaichach Germany, a son Raymond Scruggs of Robinson, Illinois; two daughters, Martha Mitman of Summerfield NC and Barbara Walker of Johnstown, PA. She was a loving grandmother (oma) of six grandchildren, Eric Price, Kelsey and Kaylyn Mitman, Kevin, Kurt, and Katarina Walker and 2 great grandchildren. Raised in rural Bavaria, Martha survived World War Two, married and accompanied her husband on 30 years of Army assignments through the United States and Germany. Martha was an active member of the community and of St. Bernard's Church including volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved children and volunteered at the Catholic school before it closed. She also visited the sick and administered communion in the local nursing homes. She was a hospice and Meals-on-Wheels volunteer for many years. In earlier years she worked as a nurse's aide in Culver Hospital. Martha's life was centered around always helping others as is witnessed in all her activities. Martha touched many lives and will be greatly missed by many. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00 with funeral mass to follow at 12:00. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Crawfordsville, Thursday, Oct 21, 2010. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will immediately follow the mass. A luncheon at Bernard's Catholic Church will follow the internment.
