Rita Mae Bond, 79, of Kingman, passed away at her residence after a long-fought illness.
Rita was born on October 11, 1946, in Clinton, Indiana, to Lewis and Norma (Holycross) Baird. She married the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Bond, on September 14, 1975, in Newport, Indiana. Together, they built a life centered around love, laughter, and family.
Rita dedicated many years of her life to serving her community through her work at the Vermillion County Courthouse. Over the years, she held numerous roles across various offices, eventually retiring as a court reporter in 2003. She took great pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.
Rita's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, and a friend who had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for. Whether it was through a conversation, a shared meal, or simply her presence, Rita made people feel at home. Rita was one of the kindest people you could have met. She was strong, resilient, and carried herself with quiet grace, even through life's challenges. She was also a very devoted member of the Cayuga Nazarene Church, where she spent countless hours of volunteer work.
She is survived by her son, Jeff (Becky) Bond of Veedersburg, Indiana; her grandsons, Ryan (Kelly) Jones, Kyle (Hope) Jones; her sister, Ruth Ann Bush of Lodi, Indiana; her nieces: Jennifer (Marty) Brown, Dana (Chad) Payne, Gidget (Russell) Hall, Renné (Chad) Pugh, Dawn (Harold) Newnum, Suzie (Webb) Crouch, Shelly (Corey) Skinner, and Lee Ann (Drew) Mullens; her nephews: Bobby (Shelly) Harrison, Clint (Heather) Bush, Brad Bond and Alex Bond; several great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Jody Delp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Norma (Holycross) Baird; her husband, James "Jimmy" Bond; her daughter, Torie D. Bond; her brother, Lonis Baird; her nephew, Ronnie Bond; and a great-nephew, Braeden Hollowell.
Rita will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength, and the deep connection she shared with those closest to her. Her presence will be missed more than words can express, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers, whose compassion, dedication, and countless hours of care made it possible for Rita to spend her time in the comfort of her home.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street in Kingman from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
