Robert Lee Steelsmith, age 87,of Waynetown passed away at 12:55 pm Tuesday September 2, 2015 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health in Crawfordsville, In.

Bob was born on September 25, 1927 in Kirklin, IN. the son of Percy
Steelsmith and Mary Ruth (nee: Hoffman) Steelsmith Red and was educated in the Lebanon School district.

He was first married to Wilma Matthews Schroeder and she survives. He was presently married to Lois Yerkes Steelsmith and she survives. He is also survived by his five children; Deb (Dave) Yerkes-Mason, Crawfordsville; Kevin (Brenda) Steelsmith, Crawfordsville; John (Kelly) Steelsmith, Waveland; Karen Jarvis, Crawfordsville; and Sharon (Tim) Cain, Crawfordsville. He is also survived by one step-daughter-in-law, Jerilyn Yerkes, Crawfordsville and step-daughter Diana (David) Miller. Two sisters; Joan Reynolds and Madalyn (Harold) Peabody and one brother Jack (Joan) Steelsmith all of Lebanon, IN. Bob had thirteen grandchildren: Ryan Yerkes, Amy (Ryan) Stewart, Aaron (Kari) Yerkes, Chasity (Rob) Riggen, Logan (fiance - Haley) Steelsmith, Katie Steelsmith, Steven Steelsmith, Matthew (Carly) Steelsmith, Stephanie Rooze, Michael Rooze, Jacob Sarver, Joshua (fiance- Kelsie) Sarver and Shanna (Fred) Roque. He also had seven great-grandchildren: Owen and Lucas Rooze, Wyatt Million, Tague, Gauge and Ryker Riggen, Hudson Yerkes and Graham Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son David Yerkes.

Bob was a Corporal in the Army Air Force stationed in the Aleutian Islands during WW II as a radio mechanic. He enjoyed farming for most of his life, loved crossword puzzles and was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church and the American Legion.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday September 6th at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd. Waynetown, In. with the Rev. Mike Whitacre officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with millitary honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
