Listen to Obituary

Sara Kay Stichter, age 81, passed away on January 10, 2026 at AdventHealth in Haines City, Florida. She was born on January 13, 1944 to Paul and Blanche (Rogers) Fuller in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Coal Creek Schools, Class of 1962. Sara was an Executive Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the Agricultural Engineering Department and later for the Nuclear Engineering Department of Purdue University, retiring in 1999. Purdue was an important part of Sara's life, where she attended courses and also met Donald Stichter. They were married in May of 1986, spending almost 40 loving years together.

After retirement, Don and Sara spent their winters in Winter Haven, Florida, and summers were spent in Indiana or traveling. For nearly 30 years, they took a yearly trip to Yellowstone, taking the grandchildren on many of their vacations. Sara enjoyed volunteering at the local schools in Florida, as a kindergarten and first grade teacher's aide, assisting the kids with reading. She also attended services at Beymer United Methodist Church and volunteered at their "Pink House" thrift store. Sara was active in the retirement community and loved taking shopping trips with her friends. She also loved caring for animals, especially horses and dogs on the family farm. Family was ultimately the most important part of Sara's life and she adored her grandchildren.

Sara is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Sherry Coffing and Paula Mitchell; grandchildren, Denae (Jarod), Kendra (Marshall), Hanna (Jordan), Gabrielle, Samantha (Jon), Zeke and Stevie; great grandchildren, Jayda, Hunter, Maycie, Johnny, Graham, Annakay, Elizabeth and Landon; and her sister, Martha "Jean" West. She will also be missed by her stepchildren, Dale Stichter, Donna (Randall) Smith and Douglas Stichter; and step-grandchildren, DJ and Chris and their families.

Sara was predeceased by her parents and son, Charles "Steve" Coffing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
