Arlie D. Thompson 85, of Crawfordsville passed away on July 21, 2021 with his family by his side. Born January 4, 1936, to Lloyd and Marguerite Hamm Thompson. He attended New Market School, graduating in 1954.

He married the love of his life, Linda French Thompson, on July 31, 1955. They were married over 65 years.

Upon graduation, he started his life-long career of working at RR Donnelley & Sons until he retired after 43 years. He treated his work crew as he would have wanted to be treated and they all loved working for him. He was an avid woodworker, making beautiful furniture for his family and friends.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed traveling and made to almost all 50 states. He loved life. He was a member of Rock Point Christian Church, the Donnelley Club, Masonic Lodge #50 and volunteered at the Clothes Closet.

Arlie was an avid bowler, a long-time Dodgers fan and loved IU! He enjoyed oil painting and watching his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports Everything from basketball, football, tennis, cheerleading, softball, soccer and even the girl's horse shows. All 4 of his girls completed 10 years of 4-H only because their dad got them there. Arlie and his son, Kevin, competed in soap box derby races.
He was a humble person, always looking to help someone. He always put others first while providing a good living for his own family.
After their children were grown, he and Linda moved to a retirement park, Crystal Lake Village in Wauchula Florida, and enjoyed it for 12 years before coming home to Crawfordsville. While in Florida, he enjoyed playing shuffle board, continued his wood-working, playing cards and bingo. They would take golf cart rides around the retirement park and he enjoyed stopping to talk to his friends and neighbors.

Arlie was baptized as a member of the BrownsValley Christian Church and as he and Linda's residence changed, so did their church family. They moved their membership to each church and were involved no matter which church they were in.

Arlie is survived by his wife Linda, his sister Kay Callis and his 5 children: Lisa (Dave) Black of Wisconsin: Kevin (Liz) Thompson, New Mexico: Rita (Mike) Mawhorter of Columbia City: Kimm (Dan) Wheeler, Arlinda (Erin) Wills of Crawfordsville.
Grandchildren: Chris Black, Natalie (Kyle) Grandahl, Jaclyn (Mike) Wesley, Ryan Brandt, Scott (Samantha) Mawhorter, Kara (Zach) Dryer, Karlee (Luke) Mawhorter, Chance (Kaitlin) Allen, Elijah (Morgan) Allen, Nathan (Amber) Ulmer, Alec Kesling, Evan (Jamie) Wills.
Great-grandchildren:
Mikayla and Jacob Wesley, Ocean and Aspen Brandt, Everett and Adelyn Grandahl, Presley Ulmer, Adam Dryer, Maddie and Carson Crowder and Grayson Collins.

Arlie was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Earl and Mary Gooding French, granddaughter Megan Ulmer, grandson Eric Wills; sisters Audra Terry and Phyllis Mumaw, brothers Max, Don, Hubert, Walter Thompson and his life-long best friend, Larry Zachary.

Please join his family for a Celebration of Life service on July 31st, the day they would have celebrated their 66th anniversary. The Celebration will be held at 1:30 at Rock Point Christian Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Masonic Lodge #50, 221 S. Washington Street Crawfordsville or Rock Point Church, 429 W 150 S, Crawfordsville.
