James Thomas West

James Thomas West passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at home. He was born on May 22, 1937 in Crawfordsville to Gerald and Dorothy (Coombs) West. Jim was a graduate of Linden High School, Class of 1955. He proudly served in the United States Army in Germany. Jim grew up farming and worked as a lifelong truck driver.
Jim was a member of the local Masons, 40 & 8, and life member of the VFW 1431. He was past president of the Eagles, past president of Montgomery County Shriners Club and past commander of the American Legion, Post 72. James enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially deer hunting, playing golf, basketball, baseball and running track. He loved watching all types of auto racing but mostly the Indy Car and NASCAR races.
Jim is survived by 4 children, Elizabeth Halfhill (Jim) of Kentucky, Charles West (Kathy) of Crawfordsville and Lori Miles (Neal) of Crawfordsville and Steve Phillips (Vicky) of Cloverdale; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Ruth Brown (Ralph) and Kathy Billingsley; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis West.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 wives; infant daughter, Kim Renee West; 2 sons, Gary West and Kevin Phillips; and sister, Diane Wilcox.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army National Guard and the American Legion, Post 72. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery outside of New Market.
