Mabel Elizabeth (Cheek) Grimes

Mabel E. Grimes, 99, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 at home with family by her side.  She was the beloved wife of the late Donald B. Grimes.  Mabel was born on October 8, 1922 to the late Charles and Mollie (Head) Cheek in Wingate.

She was a graduate of Wingate High School, Class of 1940.  Mabel was a longtime member of the Christ’s United Methodist Church.  Don and Mabel enjoyed square dancing together for over 40 years.  They wintered in Bradenton, FL and loved the square dance hall.  She was an avid Pacers and Cubs fan.

Mabel is survived by her daughters, Diana (Denny) Zimmerman and Nancy (Jeff) Hopper, daughter-in-law Karen Grimes; 8 grandchildren, James Grimes (Tabitha), Teresa Dowell (Donnie), Brandi Evans, Selina Touhey, Kyle Grimes (Alexis), Krista Cromwell (Keith), Kiley Wells and Courtney Graham (Jason); and great grandchildren, Alexis, Kolten, Kyler, Jacob, Abbie, Ava, Gracie, Lainey, Marcus, MaKayla, Johnathan, Guen and Mia and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don; 2 sons Keith and Kevin Grimes; 4 brothers, Bill, Earl, Dick and Estel and 2 infant siblings, George and Sella.

Visitation will be held in Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 Washington Street in Crawfordsville on Thursday, June 30th from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral home service at 1:00 p.m.  The service will be live-streamed and recorded which can be viewed on his obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com.
