Noemi Lopez, age 67 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 in Indiana. She was born in Manhattan, New York on March 11, 1954 to the late Raymond Lopez & Luz Selenia Cancel. She grew up in Bayamon, Puerto Rico; where she lived for almost 38 years, before relocating to Lafayette, Indiana in 1997.
Noemi graduated from La Escuela Superior Papa Juan XXIII and La Universidad de Puerto Rico (Recinto de Rio Piedras) in Puerto Rico. On November 11, 1982 she married Jose ("Joe") Lopez, who survives. Throughout the years, she worked at Sears Roebuck and Fashion Bazaar in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Furniture Retail at Fort Buchanan in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, was a Logistics coordinator at Maderas Tratadas in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. After moving to Indiana, she worked for 15 years in housekeeping services at Owen Residence Hall in Purdue University and finished her working career as a stock management clerk at Menards in Lafayette, Indiana.
Noemi was known by many as a brave spirit and a warrior. A great example of this was in 2013, when she survived a heart transplant, which provided her the opportunity to enjoy life with her family, especially her grandkids. She loved spoiling her grandkids with her passion for cooking and being silly and fun. Her last few years she enjoyed outdoors, walking, exercising, traveling, visiting small towns and enjoying life next to Joe. One of Noemi's most exciting things to do was to visit her beautiful Island of Puerto Rico. There, she spent time with family, friends and enjoyed eating home cuisine. Noemi touched many people throughout her life with unconditional love, her laughter, acts of kindness, her presence and faith in God.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Lopez of Crawfordsville; a son, Eric (Santy Lopez) Xavier Hernandez of Weston, Florida; a daughter, Tayra Adelis Lopez of Wingate; a sister, Yvonne (Hector Martinez) Lopez Bayamon, Puerto Rico; four grandchildren, Sofia I. Hernandez, Lianiris Hernandez, Jensen X. Ramirez, and Yadelis H. Ramirez; and two nephews, Fernando Martinez, and Ricardo Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Raymond Abraham Lopez.
Cremation was chosen with a Celebration of Life at one of her favorite parks, Columbian Park in Lafayette, Indiana. A final Celebration of Life will be planned in her home country of Puerto Rico, where her ashes will rest to fulfill her wishes. Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care.
