Rachel Jean (Young) Rankey

Mrs. Rachel J. Rankey passed away on her 83rd birthday on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. She was born in Roachdale, Indiana on April 23, 1938 to John S. and Mary Eileen (Boots) Young of Roachdale. She married William H. Rankey of St. Louis on January 3, 1983. They lived in Florissant, Missouri from 1983 to 2015. They moved to Lemont, Illinois until 2017 and then moved to Crawfordsville. Rachel graduated from New Market High School in 1956, then Indiana State University in 1960. She taught elementary school for 35 years. She was a member of the Woodland Heights Christian Church. In her retirement years she enjoyed the Kiwanis Club of Ferguson, Missouri and always enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting, church activities and being with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter Julie Stout of Rockville; brothers, Bill Young of Crawfordsville, Steve Young of Cape Canaveral, Florida and Bob Young of Ladoga; Grandchildren include Paige Slepokura (Chris), Katie Bryan (Austin), Brad Smith, Joslin Stout and Casey Stout; Great grandchildren, Chase, Remy and London; Stepchildren, Michael Rankey and Kevin Rankey; Step-grandchildren, Jessica Rogers (Dave), Kevin Rankey, Matthew Rankey and Danielle Schmitt; and Step great grandchildren, Griffin and Gavyn.

In addition to her parents, John and Mary Young, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Rankey and her son Bob Stout of Chicago, Illinois.

Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville on Friday, April 30, 2021 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Pastor Steve Wilke officiating.
