Richard "Dick" Michael Munro, "The Voice of Montgomery County", passed away at the age of 85 on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. He was born in Chicago, IL on January 10, 1936 to the late William Thomas & Juliana (Krones) Munro.
Dick graduated from Thornton High School in Chicago Heights, IL and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On March 16, 1963 he married, Betty Lorraine Kuhens, who survives. In 1964 Dick moved to Crawfordsville and started as a radio announcer for WCVL. After a few years, Dick moved to Kentucky and owned his own radio station, WIOK, for several years before selling it and moving back to Crawfordsville to become the radio manager of WCVL. Dick was also a writer and film maker, publishing several books and produced a film, Halloween Indiana, based in Montgomery County. He enjoyed visiting Scotland, was all about sports, and enjoyed watching his Colts, Cubs, and Bears.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; four children, Mark Richard (Sarah) Munro of Ohio, Lote (Don) White of Nebraska, Shawna Lorraine (Jim Bob) Brann of Crawfordsville, and Alaina Cathleen Munro of Florida; a brother, Charles Wesley (Lynn) Munro of Chicago, IL; a sister, Diane Munro of Chevy Chase, MD; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville on Monday, March 22, 2021 from 5:00 pm - 7:00pm. The funeral service will be at the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11:00 am with Military Honors conducted by the National Guard and Bryan Cox Post 72. The service will be live-streamed and recorded which can be viewed on Dick's obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com. Burial will follow at Oak Hill North Cemetery.
