Ruth Evelyn (Ronk) Johnson

Ruth Evelyn (Ronk) Johnson, age 91 of New Market passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Franciscan Health in Crawfordsville. She was born in Montgomery County on April 11, 1928 to the late Paul & Maude (Kessler) Ronk.

Ruth graduated from Ladoga High School and on January 11, 1947 in Whitesville, she married Donald Eugene Johnson, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1995. Throughout the years, she was a farm wife, a cook, then was the secretary for the principal at New Market School, owned a beauty shop at her home, was a licensed relator, owned and operated Johnson’s Country Carpet, and was known as the flower lady as she took care of the flower gardens at the Lane House.

She was a member of the Whitesville Christian Church and loved growing flowers and tomatoes, loved to travel, was a Master Gardener, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the hospital.

She is survived by a son, David (Meg) Johnson of Ladoga; a sister, Mary Etta Chase of Franklin; three grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Johnson, Amber Johnson, and Lisa (Matt) Chandler; eight great-grandchildren, Ally (Kole) Bort, Van Johnson, Megan, Colton and Kaylee Fox, and Elijah, Cort, and Noelle Chandler; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Johnson; a son, Duane Johnson; and a brother, Jim Ronk.

Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville on Monday, October 28, 2019 from 12:00pm till the time of the funeral service at 2:00pm with Pastor Mike Whitacre officiating.
